Google Adwords - it's time to wipe everything you have ever learned about it from your mind and start again! Google Adwords, in its simplest form, is a traffic generation method. It is different from most other traffic generation strategies since you only pay for advertising IF someone clicks on your advert and WHEN they see the promotion you are running.

No other advertising network in the world offers you the chance to pay only for people who see your promotion and for that reason Adwords is without doubt the best advertising medium in the world.

On the surface, adwords may seem a very simple and easy task. Write an ad, choose some keywords and hey presto! In reality, only about 2 or 3% of adwords advertisers actually run a profit. The reason for that is simple and the following tips will allow you to stay out the Adwords Graveyard.

Tip One: Choose your keywords carefully! The keywords you choose to bid on are the driving force behind your campaigns. They are the words a searcher will type into Google and they are the words that will trigger your advert. Your keywords MUST be highly relevant and targeted to the product you are promoting. In other words, don't bid on words such as "diet" when promoting a pack of 100 diet pills!

Tip Two: Split Your Keywords into Ad Groups! Ad groups are simply a way of organizing your keywords. Instead of having one ad group with 500 keywords within, you should aim to split common keywords into their own ad groups. Doing this will ensure that each ad group contains highly specific keywords which you can then write a highly specific ad for and send searchers to a highly specific landing page.

Tip Three: Start Small, Finish Big! It is extremely tempting to start your adwords journey with 1000 keywords in your very first campaign. It is best if you start very small... one or two ad groups and 40 or so keywords. This will allow you to closely monitor your ad spend and also how well your keywords are converting - if at all. Once you are comfortable with the system and have a profitable campaign you can start to think about expanding!

Beginning to get traffic using Google adwords is fast. Your ads will appear 5-10 minutes after you have completed your set up providing there are no problems. In essence, you could start seeing results after five minutes. You could also experience disastrous results in the same time frame if you don't follow the above tips.

But when all is said and done, adwords is simply a way to drive traffic to your promotions. It is a very complex way of getting traffic BUT it is without doubt the most effective and profitable. Don't rush in blind, take time to learn the system and remember to always bid on highly targeted and relevant keywords.
