The derivation of the word blog comes from web logging, as it used to be known. It has changed a lot in its development and now blogging is a front line tool in the Internet business promotion tool box.

It now is used to promote products and services and presents another platform to communicate with the visitor and develop a lasting relationship with them.

Taking a standard blog from Blogger or Wordpress, it is simple to customize it to your specific needs. It can be personalized and also monetized to create a platform to promote your business totally independently of your website if you so wish. Below are a few tips that may help in creating a blog which will be of interest to your audience and generate the sales for your business.

  1. Your audience
You must always consider your audience and what is of interest to them. The content of your blog must entice your visitors to return because they found it interesting. Good communication is the essence of a successful business. If your visitor becomes a regular then building of trust is a mandatory requirement to ensure a continued relationship and eventual sales.
  2. Words fail - see sketch.
A picture says a thousand words, and that is very true when reading something online. A picture or graphic placed in the blog post can break up the words a little, and if the picture is relevant to the subject can add to the interest of the reader. It is not recommended to have a lot of pictures, but one or two could help with maintaining the interest of the reader.
  3. The content needs to be relevant.
When you set up a blog, you select a set of keywords, and keyword phrases relevant to your niche market. All your content must be written with these keywords and phrases in mind and strictly ensure that the content is orientated to that niche market. A happy visitor will return again and again, and will eventually buy.
  4. Keep things simple
The art of good communication is to keep things simple. Keep the technical jargon out of the dialogue and try to keep the sentences short and to the point.
  5. Make it interactive
Audio and video are very good interactive methods, but all blogs come with a comments section for each post. Make sure this feature is not turned off and always review comments before posting.

Before starting out with your blog you must do some pre-planning as to how you will personalize and monetize it as well as how to regularly post to it. A good business blog needs a continuous stream of content which is both relevant and interesting. How will you complete this task? No plan is a plan for failure.
