It's Good To Be Back

Posted by Jay in working abroadwebsite buildingvacationnew webisiteidea

I love going on holiday. Not just for the obvious reasons of relaxing and having fun, but because it gives a chance to reflect, step back and think about new plans, business ideas and thoughts.

I had another idea for a new online company whilst away and thought that you’d find it useful if I shared my experience of building it with you. Encompassing everything that Cyberneur is about, I’m going to use all areas to build and grow my new site.

I’ll keep a blog to illustrate what is involved in building a site and let you know of any good/bad experiences I have along the way. For those of you considering launching your own website, I'm hoping you'll find this useful. My new site will be quite simple, but will provide a platform for expansion in the future. I'll tell you more over the coming days....

The Best Laid Plans

Posted by Jay in working abroadwebsite managementvacationturkey firesholidaydns problembusiness

One of the benefits of running a website as opposed to a more "fixed" bricks and mortar company is the fact tha you can run your business from anywhere in the world.

I am currently vacationing in Turkey, at the wonderful Kempinski Hotel in Barbaros Bay. My wife and I had specifically checked that the hotel had WiFi, so that we could manage our online companies whilst away.

Unfortunately, nature had other plans! We arrived to find forest fires were raging right next to our hotel and no one was allowed access in or out. Obviously there was no telling when we would be able to get in so we were provided with alternative accomodation but without easy access to the internet.

Fortunately we were able to check into the hotel the next day but came across another problem. Because Cyberneur is relatively new the site DNS entry hadn't propagated to the server in Turkey so we still couldn't access the site. I noticed that I had set the server up on a shared rather than dedicated IP address and so took the decision to change it (which while affecting users for a short period of time as it made it's way around the world's servers would be better for the long term) Anyway, 24 hours later and we're back up and running.

So, I guess the best laid plans don't always mean things will turn out the way you expect, sometimes life has other ideas :-)
