Has anyone used isnare? There are several article sites out there that you can use for free, but isnare seems to charge. It also has a weird search link, which takes you to a kiddy looking site

I had a look at this site as well.
What isnare seem to say is that you can submit your articles for free and anyone visiting the site can use them (providing they keep your author note), however if you subscribe to credits, your articles will be distributed to other publishers.
Those users who buy credits will have their articles approved (if suitable) as a priority over those users who submit articles whithout purchasing credits. You could be waiting quite a few weeks for approval if this is the route your take.
Credit prices range from US$20- US$296/ GP£9 - GP£151/ AUD$21 - AUD$348
Prices relate to the number of distribution channels
I haven't purchased any credits yet, so I can't comment on the success.

Ok, there's a lot of info written about the benefits of writing articles to drive traffic to your site. I think the key thing to remember is volume and quality.
You shouldn't be under any illusion that the submission of one article will result in a huge increase in traffic to your site - it won't (unless you are amazingly fortunate!). You need to write numerous articles to build credibility and respect.
If you are submitting any articles the objective is not only to have the content read, but also for the reader to click on your website link in "About the Author" (which you should always keep professional; do not use as a sales pitch, just include your title and company name, with a brief synopsis of your business).
The only reason a reader will click on your URL is because you have written something valid and interesting (not a whole sales story about your business, with click throughs throughout the article). Quality and professionalism are key.
Sites I have come across:-
Obviously Cyberneur.com, ezinearticles.com, article city (although this site seems to be down atm).
You've also got helium, although this site is more for the wannabe journalist - but worth checking out all the same

You need to watch when it comes to duplicating content as Google is not really in favour of that. I allow articles to be written on my site but only want original content from users or I write my own.
Check out this link what Google has to say about duplicating content:
